These ancient formations influence the soil, the water, the peat, and the quiet patience needed to mature whisky on this rugged Atlantic shore.
The Islay showcases unique Single Casks, chosen for individual character, from across the island.
Inspired by stones formed over billions of years, each expression reveals a new chapter of the island’s elemental past.

The Islay 16-year-old single cask whisky draws inspiration from basalt - the dark volcanic rock formed as molten lava cooled across Islay millions of years ago. Basalt is known for its density, power, and striking presence in the island’s dramatic headlands and shores.

The Islay 20-year-old single cask whisky draws inspiration from red sandstone - a sedimentary rock formed as ancient sands were laid down, compacted, and coloured by iron over deep geological time. Across Islay, red sandstone weathers into warmer tones and gentler forms, shaping valleys, coastlines, and soils.

The Islay 30-year-old single cask whisky draws inspiration from quartzite - an exceptionally hard rock formed when sandstone was transformed by intense heat and pressure deep within the Earth over vast spans of time. Its resistance and clarity speak to endurance and structural strength within Islay’s geological foundation.

THE ISLAY is a collaboration between Master of Malt, a founder-owned and fiercely independent whisky company with over 40 years experience bottling exceptional whisky and the female-founded team behind Studio Minerva - a global brand design agency with decades of experience shaping global spirits brands.
Both teams have long felt a deep affinity for the rugged frontier that is Islay, and the bold and challenging whiskies which emerge from it.
In this, we found common cause, and so a partnership was born.
THE ISLAY manifests that partnership, just as whisky manifests the partnership between land and time.
THE ISLAY is a love letter to the island that has given so much to Scotch Whisky and inspired this unique collaboration.
